The Arch of the Earth, the Church of S. M. Assunta and the Marquis' Palace
Joints at Roseto Valfortorein Piazza Bartolomeo III di Capua, passing theEarth Archthe ancient gateway, one enters the historical centre, built exclusively with stones from the local quarry, criss-crossed by characteristic narrow streets.
You arrive in Via Piazza Vecchiain the Sottosanti district, where the Mother Church of Santa Maria Assuntabuilt in 1507, on whose stone balustrade are carved the wild rose, the blessing Christ and the feudal coat of arms of Bartholomew III.
Next to it is the small Church of St. Philip, patron saint since 1623, and opposite faces the Marquis's Palace with its circular tower.
The Craftsman's House and the Church of St Nicholas
In the historic centre you will also find the Crafts Housea small museum of rural civilisation and the only straw ovenrestored and inaugurated in 2011, of the 7 that were present in the area. Finally, we arrive at the splendid Belvedere Giro Coste overlooking the lush Vetruscelli forest.
Finally, you can also admire the Church of St Nicholas, and the fountains (the Fontana Vecchia with the wash-house, the Fontana del Titolo and the Fontana Grande) also sculpted by masters from Roetano.
The Chisellers
During the tour you can admire the many testimonies of the now abandoned, ancient art of the stonemasons impressed in the walls, portals, façades and columns, such as the two ancient bas-reliefs similar to the lids of noble sarcophagi. These works are easily recognisable as the green-grey stone used is from the nearby quarry.
